Hello, I wonder if it is a viable option to actually deploy kong as a simple Kubernetes service instead of a Kubernetes ingress? has someone experienced with that option, can they share the experience?
Yes, this is possible but the official recommendation is to use as Ingress.

Ok i see is the ingress controller linked to a commercial licence or can we deploy that as first approach and then move to full kong api management later when our requirements and needs evolve?
There is an open-source version of the Ingress Controller for you to use free of charge.
