Insomnia Community Guidelines

Welcome to the Kong Insomnia Community, the official home for all things Insomnia!

A safe, supportive, and collaborative space for API builders, developers, testers. This is where we learn together, solve problems, explore workflows, and help each other get the best from the community.

To keep this community positive, productive, and inclusive, please follow the principles below.

Be Helpful and Technical (Focus on Quality)

Help us make the Insomnia community a valuable, searchable resource for everyone.

  • Search First - Before starting a new thread, please search existing topics. Your question may have already been answered.

  • Write Clear, Informative Titles - Titles should describe the issue or topic clearly

  • (e.g., “Insomnia 10.x → OAuth2 Refresh Token Not Working” instead of “Need help!!!”).

  • Provide Context When Asking for Help - When posting questions or troubleshooting issues, include key details:Insomnia Version: (e.g., Insomnia 10.0.2) Platform: macOS, Linux, Windows Environment Details: (local setup, sync mode, Git sync, etc.) Relevant Configuration: Snippets, error messages, workflows

  • What You’ve Tried: Steps taken so far

  • Use code blocks for logs, JSON, or request/response bodies to keep things readable.

Stay in the Right Category

  • Insomnia-only topics: Should remain in the Insomnia category

  • Questions: Ask for help

  • Bug Reports: Issues with Insomnia functionality

  • Feature Requests: Ideas or improvements

  • Kong Gateway/Konnect Questions: Please post in Kong Question categories

  • Insomnia-only topics: Should remain in the Insomnia category

Please use tags to keep discussions organized and related questions grouped together.

Protect Security & Privacy

Never share:

  • Access tokens, API keys, credentials, Sensitive environment variables, Customer data or internal config. Mask sensitive information in logs before posting.

  • Test AI-generated or copied code/snippets before posting.

  • Clearly mark untested examples as “example / unverified.”

  • Do not share content that may break systems or violate security policies.

If you accidentally share sensitive data, contact a moderator immediately so it can be removed.

Be a Good Community Citizen

Help us maintain the quality, safety, and clarity of the community.

Respect and Kindness First - Assume positive intent. Ask questions before jumping to conclusions. Harassment, hate speech, discrimination, or personal attacks will not be tolerated.
Everyone, beginners to experts, should feel welcome here.

No Spam or Excessive Self-Promotion - Sharing valuable, relevant Insomnia-related content (like a tutorial or blog post you created) is great. However: No direct solicitation, No affiliate links, No repetitive, irrelevant promotion

Respect Moderation Decisions - Moderators are here to keep the community safe and productive. If asked to modify or clarify your post, please do so promptly. If you disagree, message a moderator privately, avoid public conflict.

Report Issues (Don’t Respond to Them) - If you see posts violating guidelines, use the Flag button instead of engaging. Let moderators handle it.

Contribute to the Community

The Insomnia community grows stronger when everyone helps each other.

  • Share your knowledge - Post reusable solutions, if you have written any blogs, how tos and tutorial to share with the community and help newcomers get started.

  • Report issues with details - If you find a bug or challenge, provide as much context as possible so others can understand and assist.

  • Community-powered support - While the Kong team will do their best to answer questions, we strongly encourage community members who’ve faced similar challenges to jump in and help. Your experience can make a big difference.

  • Celebrate each other - Recognize contributions, celebrate small wins, share your experiments, and inspire others.
